Sonya Chu, practitioner, owner

Sonya has over 23 years of experience as a practitioner of holistic and alternative medicines. She earned a Master's Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) from the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA) in 2011. Her practice includes Chinese & Japanese Acupuncture styles, Chinese Herbal Medicine, often combining Chinese medicine & acupuncture with massage in her integrated treatments. Her practice focuses on the interaction between soft tissues of the anatomy and their deeper influences on the whole body, mind and spirit. Her treatments often include use of heat therapies, moxibustion, or cupping (see under Services heading, “Other Modalities”). She has completed rigorous testing by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and is a Licensed Acupuncturist by the Massachusetts Board of Medicine.

Earlier in her life, Sonya completed a BA in English Literature from Smith College,  traveled her way across the country exploring the outdoors and took many yoga classes. She returned to beautiful Western Massachusetts a few years later to study the art of Massage Therapy at the Stillpoint School of Massage. 

Sonya moved to the Boston area in 2000, and began practicing as a Nationally Certified and Licensed Massage Therapist. Her interest in bodywork drew her to further study, specifically, to Thailand Traditional massage (known also as Thai massage, or Thai-yoga massage). She was delighted when her interest took her to Chaing-Mai, Thailand for 200 hours of study in late 2005. After over 8 years working full time as a massage therapist in a tennis & fitness club, she decided to expand the scope of her healing knowledge through the study and practice of acupuncture and herbal medicine at NESA between 2008-2011, which included 9 clinical rotations and 100 hours of observation and shadowing licensed practitioners.
